Increasing the number of community gardens in urban areas
Community gardens help as climate and biodiversity friendly actions, improving urban food security, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, helping as adaptation measures to climate change impacts and strengthening associated ecosystem services. One of the main concerns in increasing the number of community gardens is inconsistency of the design and development due to the high level of land insecurity, voluntary staff rotation and the lack of leadership. This can be changed by providing paid staff opportunities to create and overlook the network and development of community gardens and growing projects within the City and County of Waterford.
increased number of community gardens
paid staff overlooking consistency and security of the growing projects
little amount of green functional community spaces
high rotation and inconsistency of voluntary staff leading to project failures
