Clashmore and Kinsalebeg Community Council

Litir Chumhdaigh

Clashmore and Kinsalebeg Community Council was set up in 2015 to represent local people and organisations. It is now a Registered Charity and a Sustainable Energy Community registered with the SEAI.

Observations

Helping Communities adapt

The City and County Council should set up and maintain a register of vulnerable people who may need help in the event of a climate emergency. This might be a heat wave or storm causing the loss of electricity.

There should also be more encouragement for community organisations and their establishment. At the moment everything is driven by local people with the odd small grant available but there should be greater support provided with local budgets for community organisations.

Communities should also be assisted to identify risks in their areas such as potential flood risks - keeping rivers clear of debris and drains maintained. They should be encouraged to tackle problems locally and helped with insurance costs etc.

Local Link

Caibidil:

We really value the contribution which Local Link makes to rural transport and hope that it will continue and improve.

Circular economy

Caibidil:

Litter is a big problem in rural Ireland and the County Council should put pressure on Central Government to allow CCTV to be used and implement the Recyclable Deposit scheme as soon as possible.

We would also ask that municipal waste centres be seen as a resource for a circular economy by recycling products that are dumped. In Surrey CC in the UK they have a shop selling quality dumped items.

Circular Economy

help for farmers

Caibidil:

The farming community needs help and guidance in navigating its way to a lower emission agricultural system.

The Council has responsibility for enforcing nitrate and water quality legislation and it needs to carry out more investigations, We also need to help people improve the quality of their septic tanks. As a Community Council are very concerned about the pressure on the quality of our local water system.
