Waterford Older People's Council represents the voice of older People in the City and County. It is part of Waterford City and County Council's Age Friendly Alliance

Ensure that Planning permissions especially for large estates immediately take into account public transport availability and needs. 

Ensure that cycle ways are available and safe and that the regulations are enforced.

Older disabled people's ability to access shops and services can be restricted by the unauthorised use of disabled parking spaces and the regulations should be enforced.

Adapting to Climate Change

The City and County Council should set up and maintain a register of vulnerable people who may need help in the event of a climate emergency. This might be a heat wave or storm causing the loss of electricity. Community Gardai could provide assistance with this as well as Community Alert Groups

There should also be more encouragement for community organisations and their establishment. At the moment everything is driven by local people with the odd small grant available but there should be greater support provided with local budgets for community organisations.
