I would like to see this become a usable, accessible green space/park with an emphasis on a natural bio diverse environment.
Increase marine based tourism
Plan has to be more ambitious & have a much clearer, measurable vision; i.e expand the boundary to Cork city scale which sees population of the city as 210,000 not 56,000, adding 5bn to target, and target growth of 50% on this population (i.e. 100,000 in 10 years) to see population density reach small EU cities. Actively target relocation of the 50,000 young who left South East to move back to Waterford then actively target non-Irish to move / relocate to Waterford to grow their business from (targeting Dublin but UK in a post Brexit world).
The planning process and it’s governance has a way to go to be more accessible to non-planning trained citizens.
- The Development Plan process should allow for a review after 2 or 3 years to consider whether implementation needs to be recalibrated to meet targets; this review should include public consultation; - WCCC should consider working more closely with community representative groups such as Waterford PPN, Older Persons Council, Waterford Comhairle na nOg, Healthy Waterford, Migrant Forum etc; - Development of Local Area Plans for Tramore, Lismore and Portlaw should be developed in consultation with community groups – not just Town and City Centre Management Groups; - WCCC should seek to establish a partnership with Waterford PPN as recommended by the Department at the 2019 PPN Annual Conference; the Minister for Local Government and Community Development called for Local Authorities and PPNs to develop partnerships to support and promote community engagement.
Waste ground at Monvoy Valley needs to be developed to benefit the community
Lack of pedestrian safety
Tramore is an amazing place to live, work and visit.Tramore Eco Group wants to work with the Council to enhance it, and its environs, to the benefit of people, wildlife and ultimately the planet! We are bursting with ideas and practical suggestions!
Rezone the green areas in Island View to reflect their actual use - recreational /green space / amenity
(i)Lack of social housing and employment to allow younger population remain in the village & community facilities for older population (ii)Provision of 30kph zones, carparking and enforcement of existing RTA legislation (iii) Zoning of land, provision for local housing needs (iiii)Review of environmental impacts, traffic issues, toilet facilities etc for increased footfall to rural attractions
The reformed Dungarvan Landfill is a brownfield site with a growing population nearby. Turning it into a park would be giving something positive back to the community.
There is a huge imbalance in the number of Social housing units in Dungarvan and Abbeyside, where since the year 2000 there has been 176 social housing units built in Dungarvan versus 33 in Abbeyside.
Development plan should reflect existing national, regional and local policies and objectives in relation to regional accessibility and connectivity and in particular between Waterford and Limerick via the N24.
Traffic management in and around Newtown, Waterford City.
Residential zoning seems to be an anomaly given the existing business context of existing uses at Newtown and Cove Cross
No central facility for training - currently using 3-4 pools for training. Many travel lengthy distances because of lack of facilities in the area.
The new Development Plan must employ a strategic approach to the development of wind energy in Waterford that protects rural communities, the environment, our natural amenities and that supports genuinely sustainable energy generation.
Waterford Council should establish a safe, separated, boardwalk style cycleway along the riverbank from the Dunmore Rd population centre to the city centre.
The development of Tankardstown engine house is a significant opportunity for Waterford's tourism offering
Open parkland should be provided for the population in the Dunmore Road area.
The Copper Coast UNESCO Global Geopark is an important asset for Waterford and capacity for increasing its effectiveness exists
