Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Active Travel Scheme, St John of God National School, Passage Road, Waterford City

Waterford City and County Council proposes to undertake the construction of traffic calming and pedestrian measures outside St John of God National School on Passage Road in Waterford City, Co. Waterford.

The proposed scheme consists of traffic calming, footpath widening, buildouts, parking realignment, and placemaking (including tree pits, benches, and colourful school gateway elements on approaches to the school).

The objective of the Safe Routes to School programme is to prioritise safe access to the school, improve school visibility through signposting and placemaking, and reduce vehicle congestion at the front of the school, as set out on the attached drawing.

The drawing is available for inspection on the right hand side of this page under "Materials" and is also on display in our Customer Services Departments in Bailey’s New Street in Waterford City and Davitt’s Quay, Dungarvan from Wednesday 23rd April 2025 to Wednesday 7th May 2025.

The Council will consider any submissions or observations made in writing regarding the proposal. All submissions should be directed to:

  • In writing - Dylan White, Communications and Behavioural Change Officer, Active Travel Department, Waterford City and County Council, City Hall, Waterford
  • By email to activetravel@waterfordcouncil.ie
  • Online - by using the "Make A Submission" button on this page.

All correspondence to be received by 5:00 PM on Wednesday 7th May 2025.

Please note that comments, including the names of respondents, submitted to Waterford City and County Council regarding this process will form part of the statutorily required report to be presented at the Metropolitan Municipal District meeting of Waterford City and County Council to be held on 19th May 2025.
