Waterford City and County Council proposes to undertake the construction of a 2.3km long Active Travel scheme on the L1523 Williamstown Road, Waterford, between Farranshoneen Roundabout on the Outer Ring Road and Ballygunner Cross.
The proposed works include:
Construction of a dedicated two-way cycleway, minimum 3.0m wide, on the south side of the L1523 Williamstown Road using the existing grass verge. The cycleway will be fully separated from vehicle traffic.
Construction of sections of 2.0 m wide footpath to ensure the continuity of the existing footpath segments on the south side of the L1523 Williamstown Road.
Junction tightening measures along the route.
Construction of 3 No. pedestrian crossing points on the L1523 Williamstown Road
Public lighting will be installed at locations where it is required on the L1523 Williamstown Road.
The objective of the scheme is to provide Active Travel infrastructure on the L1523 Williamstown Road, to enhance safety for vulnerable road users, to improve connections to existing footpaths and provide pedestrian crossing points close to natural desire lines, as set out on the attached drawing.
The drawing is available for inspection on this page (right hand side) and is also on display in our Customer Services Departments in Bailey’s New Street in Waterford City and Davitt’s Quay, Dungarvan from Wednesday 19th March 2025 to Wednesday 16th April 2025.
The Council will consider any submissions or observations made in writing regarding the proposal.
