SPECIAL SPEED LIMITS DRAFT BYE-LAWS 2026

PHASE 2 OF 4 - IMPLEMENTATION OF BUILT UP AND URBAN AREA SPEED LIMITS

Waterford City and County Council in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Section 9 of the Road Traffic Act 2004 as amended by Sections 53 to 56 of the Road Traffic and Roads Act, 2023, and Sections 6 to 10 of the Road Traffic Act, 2024, and with the consent of Transport Infrastructure Ireland hereby gives notice of its intention to make Special Speed Limit Bye-Laws 2026 for its administrative area.  

A countywide review of speed limits has been carried out in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Department of Transport for the Setting and Managing Speed Limits in Ireland.  

The Draft Bye-Laws and accompanying maps are available for inspection here on the right and on speedlimits.ie and during normal office hours from Wednesday 15th July to Thursday 13th August 2026, at the Customer Service Desks in Bailey's New Street, Waterford and Civic Offices, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.  The maps are also available on the SpeedLimits.ie website.

The Council will consider any submissions or observations made in writing regarding the proposal.  Submissions should be made as follows:
