Scoil an Bhaile Nua, Newtown, Kilmacthomas, County Waterford

Waterford City and County Council proposes to undertake the construction of traffic calming and pedestrian measures outside Scoil an Bhaile Nua on the L7054 and L8061 at Newtown, Kilmacthomas, County Waterford.

The proposed scheme consists of traffic calming measures, a pedestrian crossing, footpath widening, buildouts, parking realignment, and placemaking including colourful school gateway elements on approaches to the school.

The objectives of the Safe Routes to School programme are to prioritise safe access to the school, improve school visibility through signposting and placemaking, and reduce vehicle congestion at the front of school, as set out on the attached drawing. 

The drawing are available for inspection on this page (opposite) and Customer Services Departments on Bailey’s New Street, Waterford City and Davitt’s Quay, Dungarvan from Wednesday 18th March 2026  to Wednesday 15th April 2026. 

There is a public consultation event for this scheme in Lenihan’s, Newtown, Kilmacthomas, County Waterford, X42 TH61 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday 18th March 2026.

The Council will consider any submissions made in writing regarding this proposed scheme. All submissions should be directed to Dylan White, Communications and Behavioural Change Officer, Active Travel Department, Waterford City and County Council, City Hall, Waterford, by email to activetravel@waterfordcouncil.ie or here on the consult.waterfordcouncil.ie to be received by 5:00 PM on Wednesday 15th April 2026. 

Please note that submissions, including the names of respondents, submitted to Waterford City and County Council regarding this process will form part of the statutorily required report to be presented at a future meeting of the Comeragh Municipal District of Waterford City and County Council. Accordingly, they may also appear in the public domain.
